Keys to Writing Great Article Summaries

Next to your article title, the summary is one of the most critical aspects to capture your reader’s attention. Reading comprehension should be simple and maintain a flow in the article.

An article summary is a brief teaser or synopsis highlighting the benefits of your article. Appearing anywhere from RSS feeds to your Expert Author profile page, article summaries bring your readers in after the initial title hook. Article summaries should entice the reader and should make the reader want to read your article above all other articles.

Many Expert Authors will reuse their article’s introductory paragraph as their summary.* While this practice is considered acceptable, unique article summaries can go much farther in delivering results.

Writing Tips: Two Reasons you should NEVER rely on Word’s spellchecker

Writing tips would not be worth anything if you are not exposed to to two reasons you should NEVER rely on Microsoft Word’s spellchecker. Your sales pages and e-mails are suffering, I know, I have seen them. The reason for this can be as basic as you stop utilizing, nay, relying only on Word.

Every writer should have a exceptional writing style and Word’s spellchecker cannot interpret YOUR writing style. Sometimes, good writers will purposely use fragments or run-ons while expressing their writing voice. The secret is, once you understand how to correctly use the English language in a manner in which you can then manipulate it for your convenience and style. For example, many writers excel at writing dialogue that represents certain real-life issues.

Homophones are probably the number one reason you should not rely on spellchecker and in these writing tips you should learn basic homophones. According to Wikipedia, “Homophones are words that have the same sound but different meanings (and may or may not have different spellings).” What does this mean? This means the computer, in most cases, cannot distinguish between words because of how they are used contextually (meaning how you use the word). For instance, the word there represents places and the word their represents people. So, if you say the students brought there supplies to class, you will have misused the word there.

These two words are always misused and these writing tips will help you recognize if your writing suffers from this problem. This time the computer acknowledged the basic syntax and you are okay; however, there are many more words the computer will not acknowledge. You will need to examine these words and how they are properly used so you can edit your work and boost your sales and commissions.Wikipedia provides this basic list of some of the words that can give spellchecker fits because it does not know how you want to use them in your article. heal/heel/he’ll, peal/peel, real/reel seal/seel/ceil sealing/ceiling, steal/steel weal/we’ll, and wheal/wheel weald/wield. So, you will have to either learn many of the words that are spelled differently but sound the same or close. The words there, their, and there are probably the three words that will give you problems.

Style and voice are actually two more writing tips that form our next reasons, but I like to place them together and make them one specific tip from all of my other writing tips. Many writers develop a voice and a unique style. Developing these two aspects comes from knowing how to appropriately use grammar and conventions while writing. If you want your copy to stand out, you will need to be unique. Sometimes, this causes writers to purposefully use words, sentences, and fragments incorrectly as a way to develop their style and voice. If you rely on Word’s spellchecker, and are the type who just clicks because the dialogue box tells you to, you may fix things that are unique to you. Your writing may suffer as a result. use these simple writing tips to improve the effectiveness of your writing.

Writing for Children – Step-By-Step Through Educational Publishing

If you enjoy writing nonfiction and love to research topics in all sorts of different subject areas then educational publishing just might be right for you. Many educational publishers need writers. Surprisingly, though, these publishers generally don’t advertise that fact to writer’s magazines or market guides. So here’s how to get started in this active market.

There are basically two different areas of focus you can take in educational publishing. The first is on writing nonfiction (and some fiction, too) that will be used directly by children (sometimes with the help of a parent or teacher). This type of material includes reference books, early-readers, remedial readers, textbooks, educational games, workbooks, and even CDs.

The second focus available in the educational market is creating and developing materials that will be used with children by parents, librarians, and teachers. These materials include everything from books of language arts activities designed to help teachers in the classroom, to books of bulletin board ideas and finger puppet patterns.

It doesn’t really matter which focus you choose. There are dozens of opportunities available for writers who want to develop educational materials directly for kids, as well as opportunities for those writers who wish to develop materials for teachers and parents to use with kids.

Do You Want To Learn To Read With Phonics?

If you need to learn to read or need to make your child learn how to read, you probably understand the difficulties of coming to grips with this process. Learning how to read can be very difficult, especially if you are an adult who has never had the chance to do so before.

Teaching a child can also be quite difficult, since children may have difficulty grasping complex concepts or keeping their attention on the subject for an extended period of time. However, many people are successfully learning to read with phonics.

With phonics, the student is taught about the different sounds that letters make. Commonly a combination of books and flash cards are used to display the letters and the spellings of the sounds of those letters. People may also use computer programs and CDs to aid with this type of learning.

With phonics, people are also taught to recognize patterns that are commonly formed by letters. By recognizing the patterns, reading comprehension speeds up and it is possible to read by skimming words and phrases, rather than reading text one letter at a time.

People must also learn about the rules that apply to reading English. For instance, some letters will make different sounds based upon the surrounding letters. Also, there are rules about spelling, like i before e except after c.

There are many resources that can help a person learn to read with this method. Today, there are tons of websites that are dedicated to the topic and many may be accessed for free. These sites may include eBooks, printable flash cards, posters, games, and worksheets.
